I have been sentenced to remaining at home and engaging in no strenuous activities through the Labor Day weekend. Instead, I’m at home watching House and browsing cars on Craigslist.

This is all due to the five holes in my gumline caused by an oral surgeon yanking four wisdom teeth and the broken molar that got me into this mess in the first place. The surgery was fast, and with IV sedation I was out before I had a change to get woozy. The downside now is the complicated regimen of painkillers, oral hygiene, medical rinses, and temporary diet changes I have to make. I’ve had more jello and pudding in 24 hours than I’ve had in a year, but I’d rather have roast beef and mashed potatoes. ( I’m an adulty adult when it comes to food.)

All this means limited mobility, so I’ve been dwelling on replacing my truck, that Spartan beast with hand-crank windows and a rough ride and terrible bumpsteer. Instead, I want this, but I’m partially aware of the downsides to such a purchase:

!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

360 horsepower and a boatload of torque; seating for four with room for cargo in a shorter wheelbase than a comparable pickup, a butter-smooth ride with fantastic handling, an extremely nice visual aesthetic compared to the usual silver M320, and an auto trans because I’m tired of downshifting in the hill country so often .

So, does anyone have some realistic input on this as a choice? I’m aware that it is high-mileage; but my v6 is at 176000, so there’s that factor. I’m also aware that the young 26-year-old hoon in me wants this for hoonability. Any and all opinions are welcome: I’ll be here all day. No, seriously, I told my folks the couch is mine.

Thanks, Oppo. :)

Huh?

It’s a quote from House. You’re on some really good meds.

I meant “I’ll get around to that episode, trust me.” I’m only on 5mg of hydrocodone.. and 800mg of ibuprofen.. and 825mg of acetominophen.. and azithromycin... and clindamycin... and...

House says that more than once. It becomes a running joke.

I know this. I’ve watched the entire series, beginning to end, at least three times. I’ve remembered 75% of the diagnoses from the first season so far. But I don’t remember which episode started the “It’s not Lupus” gag.

I’ve never finished the whole series. I stopped this time around somewhere in season 6. I remember he got back from rehab, and everyone is on eggshells, then Remy leaves and I stopped watching. I should probably pick it back up before Netflix takes it away.

It gets different after about season 8, but the cases are still good. The series finale is a great ending, though.

If you want another show to watch, you should check out Arrow. I’ve already watched 1.5 seasons in 3 days.

Stop watching House reruns now. Get on youtube, and search “The Smoking Tire One Take”.

VERY stiff ride, have fun on the bumps. It handles very well, almost like a sedan. Maintenance is like any AMG. It’s not too expensive to work on, and it’s not too hard to work on it yourself. Oh and that V8 MOVES. Test drive it first cause that stiff ride is no joke.

I didn’t like their podcast, but I’ll give the YouTube show a chance in the morning. Thanks!

Thank you! I imagined it would be a soft ride, but I should have expected someone would tell me otherwise. Do they tend to have a lot of issues?

Don’t get me wrong! It’s still an extremely smooth ride, but you will feel the bumps in the road. They’re pretty reliable, but I’d get a MY2002 with new mirrors & better interior. From what I know the non-AMG MLs had catalytic converter problems early on, I think one still running at this point would have most gremlins sorted out. Oh! Brake pads and motors have to be replaced every 20K miles. I was quoted for around 300 per pad (this was thru 2008-2011) but other than that it’s a very nice car. There’s dedicated forum sections for itit & if you want to read more about it. I also blew a power steering hose and had to get a new steering rack, it’s not too expensive though. Mileage is well, not the best. But it’s a good SUV, much more comfortable than my Abarth :-)

Tl;dr it’s good, pretty reliable, and relatively cheap to maintain with a little DYI. Sorry for rambling!

Yeah their pidcast has a bit too much weed talk. Reminds me of the high school group that would talk about getting high all the time trying to be cool. The “one takes” are just Matt driving peoples cars. Kind of like Drive’s Tuned episodes, but filmed with go pros.

If you think that’s rambling you’ve just done, I bet you write better drunk than my boss does sober. Thank you, thank you! This is the kind of info I’m looking for that I never seem to get lol. I’ll have to look for a 2002 if I can, but surprisingly it’s very hard to find these vehicles for sale at all — even on auto trader!

The one takes sound a lot more fun, then. I don’t care for multi-person podcasts where the hosts are like a couple of kids sharing in-jokes like the listeners are newbies to the clique. Thanks for the recommendation!
